Jaiden Spence is a part of the TravelJoy family and has a HUGE passion for photography (and Africa). So in February 2019, Traveljoy sent him to Africa in order to take some photos and to experience just how amazing African Safaris can be!
I had the opportunity to sit down with Jaiden, to chat about his recent adventures with TravelJoy as he captured moments, and scouted out new accommodations and safari itineraries for upcoming tours!
Q: Why did you want to go on a safari?
A: I really enjoy traveling and I love taking photos of animals, landscape and people too! It’s just quite an amazing experience, going on a safari vehicle and seeing all the wildlife in an environment that’s different to what you’re used to in the ‘western world’.
Q: What safaris did you go on?
A: We went on a variety of different tours. We went to southern Tanzania to scout new accommodation and itineraries, which included, Zanzibar, Northern Tanzania, Kenya. We wanted to check it out first hand, to experience what our guests experience.
Q: Which of these places where your favorite?
A: I really loved Zanzibar because, for one, It’s a massive holiday destination, and secondly, it has such beautiful island vibes. I loved that!
But then I really enjoyed Ngorongoro Crater because I’ve always dreamed of being able to relax in a beautiful lounge, while overlooking such an incredible landscape. It was just like the most perfect, isolated location – so peaceful.
Q: Do you have a favorite memory from this trip?
A: Yeah! We were driving from the Ngorongoro Crater in Tanzania to Kenya. There was what seemed to be hundreds of thousands of Zebras and wildebeests! It was just so amazing to see! We had the top of the vehicle off so that we could stand up and look out. All of these beautiful animals were just standing along the plains and it was like “oh, wow!”.
Q: Did you travel with anyone?
A: Yes, I traveled with my dad, Errol and my brother, Isaiah. Plus our guide travelled with us throughout the trip! He was great!
Q: Which accommodation did you enjoy the most, and why?
A: Definitely the Ruaha Hilltop Lodge which is in Southern Tanzania. We went up to the top where guests eat their breakfast and you can look out onto these plains. There’s a beautiful river running through and mountains off in the distance, it was so green and lush with elephants crossing the river. It was really spectacular!
Q: What animals did you see, and were they easy to spot?
A: There were so many animals everywhere we went! We took our trip, it was just after the rainy season, so there were lots and lots of animals. When we schedule safaris for TravelJoy clients, we book them in for the dry season because all the animals end up congregating around water holes so it’s much easier to see wildlife.
Q: Do you feel like you packed well enough for your destinations?
A: I feel like I actually packed too much, to be honest. I could have gone 2-3 kilos lighter, but to be fair, I also packed a lot of camera gear. In terms of clothes, I think I packed well. I brought 2 pairs of jeans, 1 pair of shorts, a shirt for each day of the week (same goes for socks and underwear), and a good jacket just in case! That’s all I really needed!
Q: And lastly… Would you travel with TravelJoy again?
A: Absolutely! Without a doubt! – Thank you TravelJoy!!
